Enter your full birth name and date of birth and the calculator returns three core numbers: Life Path (from the birth date), Expression Number (from the full name), and Soul Urge (from the vowels in the name). Each is reduced to a single digit between 1 and 9 by adding the digits repeatedly, except for master numbers 11, 22 and 33 which traditionally stay un-reduced. So 1985 becomes 1+9+8+5 = 23, then 2+3 = 5.

The Life Path number is the headline figure: it is meant to describe your fundamental life direction. A Life Path 1 is read as a born leader; a Life Path 7 as an analytical seeker; a Life Path 9 as a humanitarian. The Expression Number describes your natural talents based on the letters in your name (each letter A through Z maps to a digit 1 through 9). The Soul Urge describes your inner motivation.

Modern Western numerology was popularised by the American writer L. Dow Balliett in the early 1900s and refined by Dr Juno Jordan in the 1960s. The number-letter mapping is borrowed from Pythagorean tradition, which assigned numerical values to Greek letters in the 6th century BCE. The Pythagoreans believed numbers had inherent qualities (3 was harmony, 4 was justice), and the modern numerology system is a direct descendant of that worldview.

Numerology has no mainstream scientific support as a predictor of personality or life events. Multiple studies have found that life path numbers do not correlate with measured traits beyond chance. Whether to honour master numbers is a stylistic choice.
