30 animal words ranging from 3 letters (CAT, DOG, COW, PIG, HEN) up to 8 letters (ELEPHANT, FLAMINGO, KANGAROO). Easy (left-to-right and top-to-bottom only) suits 4 to 6 year olds, who are still learning to scan in one direction. Medium adds right-to-left and bottom-to-top, which works for 6 to 8 year olds who can read fluently but find diagonals frustrating. Hard adds all four diagonals, including the up-left direction that even adults find tricky; reserve it for ages 9 and up.

Class teachers running a mixed-age session can print easy and hard side by side and let kids pick. The animals are the same, but the hard version takes about 4 times as long to solve.
